Another Putin Ally Falls From A Window

Vladimir Egorov, a Tobolsk City Duma Deputy affiliated with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party, was discovered dead in the courtyard outside his home. The 46-year-old’s demise adds to a pattern of influential Russian figures meeting unclear fates.

According to reports from the Russian newspaper Kommersant, the Investigative Committee for the Tyumen Region confirmed Egorov’s death, emphasizing the absence of apparent signs of foul play. The outlet added that the committee “could not confirm the information about the circumstances of the deputy’s death” as they are “still conducting an autopsy.”

Russian state media TASS echoed this information, stating that Egorov was found lifeless in Tobolsk. The unofficial Telegram channel Baza, linked to Russian security services, specified that Egorov’s body was found on Kedrovaya Street.

Most other publications, including the daily paper Izvestia and REN TV, are presuming that Egorov fell from a third-floor window. The publication 72.ru wrote that one eyewitness reported seeing the deputy fall from a third-floor window, and another said that he had “heart problems.”

Meanwhile, the Tobolsk City Duma posted an obituary attributing Egorov’s demise to an accident. The late deputy chairman was commended for his extensive support of those involved in the Special Military Operation in Ukraine and their families, as well as his active engagement in the city’s social and political life.

The Russian news outlet RBC reported on Thursday that Egorov became one of the richest deputies of Tobolsk last year, with his income growing to 9.1 million rubles (about $100,500).

Per CNN, months before his death, Egorov was accused of posting an anti-war message on WhatsApp, which he had denied and blamed on an “unfortunate misunderstanding and a technical error.” His death adds to a long list of Russian elites who have perished in recent months and years, under circumstances ranging from suicide to unexplained accidents.
