BREAKING: OceanGate Reports Titan Sub Crew Has Been Lost

Update: The US Coast Guard uncovered what appears to be the tail cone of the Titan on the sea floor about 1,600 feet from the Titanic’s bow, implying that the submarine’s remnants correspond to pressure chamber failure.

According to a statement from OceanGate, all five passengers that were on the Titan submersible bound for the Titanic wreckage have perished at the depths of the Atlantic ocean. “We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost,” a statement from the company reads.

The US Coast Guard has discovered a debris field on the ocean floor near the sunken Titanic, with plans to unveil the further details of the findings at a press briefing scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The search for the missing Titan vessel operated by privately-funded exploration company OceanGate Expeditions has intensified, as oxygen available to the five trapped occupants is forecast to run out on Thursday. The Canadian vessel Horizon Arctic deployed a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to the sea floor also on Thursday morning, which was followed by French vessel L’Atalante also deploying its ROV to help with the search efforts.

A friend of one of the passenger aboard the Titan told BBC News that the debris found near the shipwreck belong to the submarine, including the landing frame and the rear cover.
