The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is conducting an investigation into OpenAI’s ChatGPT artificial intelligence system, examining potential false information dissemination that could have adversely affected individuals.
According to a person familiar with the situation cited by the Wall Street Journal and a letter seen by the Washington Post, the FTC’s civil investigative demand is also inquiring about OpenAI’s data security measures, referencing a matter in 2020 where a disclosed bug allowed users to access other users’ conversations with the AI bot and certain payment-related details.
The inquiry, is also supposedly looking into the company’s marketing strategies, AI model training practices, and management of users’ personal data.
