Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META), the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has unveiled the web version of Threads in an effort to challenge its rival, X, previously known as Twitter.
Initially launched on July 5, Threads saw a collosal rise, securing over 100 million sign-ups within just five days. However, the platform soon experienced a dip in its user base, with many returning to the familiar embrace of platform X following the initial excitement.
Recent data from Similarweb cited by Reuters highlighted a sharp decrease in daily active users on Threads’ Android app— plummeting from a peak of 49.3 million to just 10.3 million in a little over a month. By introducing a web version, Meta aims to attract and retain professional users, including brands, advertisers, journalists, and other power users.
Moreover, Meta has promised to enhance the web experience by integrating more features in the upcoming weeks.
