Mullen Automotive Jumps On AI Bandwagon With Launch Of Facial Recognition Tech For Vehicles

Mullen Automotive (NASDAQ: MULN) is attempting to jump on the AI bandwagon despite being primarily focused on electric vehicles. The company this morning announced the release of Persona, which it refers to as AI vehicle technology.

The system is said to be an interactive AI camera/sensor and video monitoring system that enables a user to use facial recognition to lock and unlock vehicles, while also enabling personalization of the “overall vehicle experience.” Additional functions are said to include an AI-powered emergency response, security fence, pet and occupant safe mode, and advanced vehicle charging.

The tech is said to be in the process of being implemented in both consumer and commercial vehicles, after being first developed within the Mullen Five. Potential commercial applications include the company suggesting it can improve efficiency for delivery drivers by automatically unlocking the vehicle as a driver approaches it at a distance of 8-10 feet after making a delivery, and turning the engine on, enabling the driver to continue at a faster pace.

“Right from the beginning, when we first introduced PERSONA at the 2021 LA Auto Show, the amount of positive feedback we’ve received has been far beyond anything we imagined; so, of course, we had to expand it for additional use cases. We are actively working on the broad commercialization of this AI-based proprietary technology,” commented CEO David Michery.

Mullen Automotive last traded at $0.23 on the Nasdaq.
