Power Leaves Hosts Colombian Vice President, Government Delegation At Facilities

The Colombian government recently demonstrated its support for Power Leaves Corp, with Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Marquez, touring the company’s Cohetando facility. Marquez was accompanied by Congressmen, INVIMA officials, along with civil and military authorities.

The visit saw Power Leaves and its partner, the Indigenous Foundation of the Colombian Andes, present its decocainization process and facility. The visit followed one in March 2023, during which time the company presented its fertilizer and coca genetics R&D facility to the Colombian government.

“We spent our campaign always talking about the need to change the use of the coca leaf to produce food, to produce inputs, to produce medicine and to produce goods that would serve the community,” Marquez stated as part of a presentation made at the event. “We hope soon we will be able to launch from here a life project, and peace project to Colombia and the whole world.”

The current government of Colombia, lead by President Gastavo Petro Urrego, is focused on zero hunger, total peace, and a new focus on the war against drugs. Power Leaves efforts with the Coca Leaf are said to be fully aligned with the policy, with the company considered the “most viable solution,” when it comes to reducing the exploits of the coca leaf and to generate sustainable sources of economic development for Indigenous communities.

Under Colombian law, Indigenous peoples have the right to cultivate coca for scientific, medical, and commercial purposes, which enabled Power Leaves to partner with the Indigenous Foundation of the Colombian Andes.

“We believe our collaborative approach will over time lead to the de-stigmatization of the coca leaf and continued development of this new industry to the benefit of the Indigenous peoples of Colombia,” commented CEO Pat McCutcheon.

Recent exports

The visit by government officials follows Power Leaves last week completing its first international exports of decocainized coca extract. The first export was sent to Eurofins NSC Canada, where it will be used for analytical testing and production formulation and sampling. Days later, the company exported extracts to Ardezen Pty Ltd in Australia for similar purposes.

“Power Leaves is looking globally to build relationships with formulators, contract manufacturers, brand houses, and other commercial partners to bring our extracts to market,” commented McCutcheon at the time.

Power Leaves currently has two core products, coca extract, which targets the $232 billion global carbonated beverage market with its exceptional flavor profile and array of nutrients, and coca essence, which is a terpene-rich concentrate that is ideal for blending into alcoholic beverages. The US alcoholic beverage market is viewed as a $232 billion opportunity in and of itself, with new natural based ingredients needed to assist in reinvigorating product offerings.
