Prominent Russian Economist Dies in Fall from Moscow Apartment

Valentina Bondarenko, an esteemed 82-year-old research fellow at the Center for Institutes of Socio-Economic Development at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has passed away. According to law enforcement reports, Bondarenko fell from her apartment window in New Moscow’s Voskresenskoye settlement.

The authorities have said that the death does not appear to be criminal in nature, although the exact circumstances are still under investigation. They noted that Bondarenko had been dealing with long-term health issues.

Bondarenko, who joined the Institute of Economics in 1988, was a respected figure in her field. She was also affiliated with the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the International Academy of Futures Studies. Her research focused on the transformation of socio-economic systems.

This incident adds to a series of similar occurrences involving prominent Russian figures in recent years, with the most recent being the sudden death of 53-year-old Vitaly Robertus, a VP at Lukoil, in March. Many of these sudden, unexplained deaths involve falling from windows.
