Rolls-Royce Unveils First All-Electric ‘Super Coupe’

British luxury automaker Rolls-Royce has announced the first entry from its electric vehicle lineup, the 2024 Spectre. The all-electric “super coupe” with “indulgent proportions” has an estimated range of up to 260 miles, a still yet-to-be-revealed price tag, and is set to reach its first batch of customers beginning the fourth quarter of 2023.

Engineered from the ground up as an electric vehicle, Spectre marks the start of the British automaker’s journey to producing only EVs by 2030. Its 2023 arrival beats Rolls-Royce’s competitors — Aston Martin and Bentley — in the luxury EV arena by a good few years.

While the company has yet to reveal details about the EV’s range and battery capacity, the ultra-luxury two-door coupe has been described by CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös as “the most perfect product that Rolls-Royce has ever produced.”

“Spectre possesses all the qualities that have secured the Rolls-Royce legend,” Müller-Ötvös added. “It is perfectly in tune with the sensibilities of our time. It states the direction for the future of our marque and perfectly answers a call from the most discerning individuals in the world to elevate the electric motor car experience.”

The EV, with its “indulgent proportions” and headlight layout, is described as the spiritual successor to the automaker’s Phantom coupe. The two-door, four-seat Spectre will be 214.6 inches long with a slightly condensed 126.4-inch wheelbase, shorter but wider at 81.4 inches, making it one of the most expansive in Rolls-Royce’s current lineup. It’s so expansive — or as they put it, indulgent — that its proportions will need to sit on 23-inch wheels. Spectre will be the first Rolls-Royce on 23-inch wheels in over a century.

While details on the specs are scarce, the automaker said that Spectre is expected to get “up to” 260 miles of range, give 664 pound-feet of torque from its 577 horsepower power train, and go from zero to 60mph in 4.4 seconds.

As for the price tag, Rolls-Royce confirmed that it will be somewhere between the Cullinan SUV, which starts at $327,750, and Phantom, which is $458,000, but it will likely be closer to the latter, more indulgently proportioned pricing.
