Donald Trump Wants to Do A Cognitive Test with President Joe Biden

Former President and GOP nominee for the 2024 presidential election Donald Trump has suggested that he and President Joe Biden should take cognitive examinations — together. This proposal comes in the wake of the June 27 debate, which sparked discussions about Biden’s mental acuity.

Trump, 78, made this suggestion on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying that all presidential candidates should be required to take cognitive and aptitude tests. He offered to “go with” Biden, 81, framing it as a team effort “for the good of the Country.”

The call for cognitive testing has gained traction beyond Trump’s circle. Prominent Democrats, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Representatives Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi, have echoed similar sentiments since the debate. However, Biden has dismissed these calls, asserting that he faces daily tests through the challenges of his job.

Apart from his debate performance, Trump’s proposal follows a series of gaffes by Biden, including a recent incident where he mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin” before correcting himself. Trump described this as an “unpardonable gaffe” and criticized Biden’s debate performance.

But experts caution against oversimplification. Dr. Duke Han, a professor at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, told Forbes that test results alone may not provide a comprehensive picture of an individual’s mental capabilities and could be misinterpreted by the public.

In his social media posts, Trump also pushed unsubstantiated claims about former President Barack Obama’s involvement in an alleged campaign to force Biden out of the race. These allegations stem from a Politico report that claimed Obama knew about actor George Clooney’s New York Times op-ed calling for Biden to step down before it came out.

The White House maintains that Biden’s doctor has not recommended a cognitive exam. The president’s annual medical report, released in February, indicated no evidence of neurological disorders following a detailed examination.
