Harborside (CSE: HBOR) is evidently focused on the continuous improvement of its cultivation practices. The firm this morning announced that it has entered into a strategic research agreement, focused on what is referred to as crop steering.

The research agreement has been entered into with that of the Utah State University, with Harborside assisting in conducting a study led by Dr Bruce Bugbee. A founder and the President of Apogee Instruments, Bugbee is highly experienced in the field of crop physiology, being a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and American Society of Horticultural Science while having 137 studies to his name within the field.

“From a practical perspective, this study will not only impact our scientific understanding of cannabis but also present relevant practices that can be implemented in commercial cannabis production to potentially boost sustainability and help the industry scale efficiently,” said Dr Bugbee on the announcement of the study.

Through what is referred to as crop steering, the research program will look to improve crop yield and quality, while saving resources. This is to be done via the adjustment of lighting, climate and irrigation through the grow cycle of the plants, providing more control over the harvest.

Research is to be conducted at Utah State University, with Harborside VP of Production, Travis Higginbotham, assisting in the study to develop relevant techniques while utilizing crop steering.
