Meta’s Threads API Goes Live

Meta (Nasdaq: META) has announced the much-anticipated launch of its Threads API, allowing developers to create custom experiences and integrations for the rapidly growing social media platform.

The API release, which was announced by Threads director of engineering Jesse Chen in a blog post and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the platform, marks a significant milestone for the app, which has amassed over 150 million users since its launch in July 2023.

With the new API, developers can now publish posts, access their own content, and utilize reply management tools to moderate and respond to comments. Additionally, the API provides analytics capabilities, enabling businesses and creators to track metrics such as views, likes, replies, reposts, and quotes at both the media and account levels.

Meta has also released an open-source sample app on GitHub, serving as a reference for developers interested in exploring the API’s potential. The company has set a limit of 250 API-published posts per 24 hours for Threads accounts to maintain platform stability.

Prior to the public launch, Meta conducted a closed beta testing phase with partners such as Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Social News Desk, Hootsuite, and Techmeme.

Despite its rapid growth and ongoing feature additions, Threads has faced challenges including accessibility concerns and the spread of hate speech and misinformation. The platform has since introduced fact-checkers to combat the spread of false information.

The release of the Threads API comes at a time when third-party developers have faced difficulties due to API restrictions and shutdowns on other social networks, such as X and Reddit
