Did Microsoft Edge Post This Embarrassing Tweet Only to Delete It After?

This season is a pretty competitive time on social media — influencers, media outlets, and brands all want to put up their year-in-review content in the hopes of going viral. One X user saw what could be Microsoft Edge’s attempt at doing so, and it wasn’t pretty.

The post, which appears to have been posted on December 26, ambiguously asks users about how they “edge” by sharing their “most memorable edges.”

But wait, there’s more. The cringe-y post, as X’s Context feature claims, wasn’t posted by Microsoft Edge. Instead, it appears to have been made up and then posted by competitor Opera. If true, that’s an even cringe-er plot twist.

However, note that this has not been confirmed and neither Microsoft Edge nor Opera has commented on the matter as of this writing.

What’s confirmed is that these two are trailing far behind top browsers in terms of usage. 2023 data from SimilarWeb show that in the US, Edge saw a user share of just a little over 6%, while Opera GX was lumped in under “Others” at 0.72%.

Chrome and Safari enjoy a user share of 45.63% and 44.49%, respectively, as of November 2023.
