Tesla’s Special Secret Project Might Actually Be Elon Musk’s Future Glass House, Report Says

An alleged secret project at Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), which was known publicly as ‘Project 42,’ might be the construction of a glass house for no other than CEO Elon Musk, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal, which cited unnamed sources.

The Journal, which said that people within the company described the project as Musk’s house, reportedly saw a document that revealed one concept that “showed a structure in the shape of a twisted hexagon on waterfront land with Tesla’s factory in the background.”

The project was brought to light when an order of specialized glass, worth millions of dollars, reportedly became a cause of concern among employees who did not know what it was going to be used for. This later resulted in Tesla board members investigating whether there was potential misuse of company resources, and if Musk had a role in this misuse.

The Journal was unable to discover the results of the internal investigation, and other than descriptions of a dramatic glass structure near Tesla’s Texas factory, not much is still known about Project 42. Its current status, and whether the specialized glass order did push through and if planning or construction is underway, is unknown.

What is known is that Musk claimed in 2021 that his primary residence is “literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica” in Texas which he says he rents from his rocket company, SpaceX. The year before, he proclaimed that he would “own no house” and sold his homes in California for $130 million.

The billionaire is also reportedly buying up land and building an entire town in Texas, alongside facilities for SpaceX and his infrastructure and tunnel construction services company, The Boring Company. The town, reportedly called Snailbrook, would have at least 110 homes that will be offered to Musk’s companies’ employees at below-market prices.
