The US Will No Longer Provide Funding to the World Health Organization

The blame game between the US and China regarding the origins of the coronavirus has just intensified, with Donald Trump announcing the US will be terminating its relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The move comes amid Trump blaming the WHO for its apparent mismanagement of the coronavirus spread, stating that the organization acted in China’s favor and downplayed the seriousness of the virus, as well as helped cover up the origin of the onset of infection. As per Trump’s request, his administration will no longer provide funding to the WHO, and instead direct the funds towards other health organizations.

On an annual basis, China contributes approximately $40 million to the WHO, whereas the US devotes anywhere between $400 and $500 million to the organization. Although the US will longer be directing funding to the WHO, it will still continue to interact with the organization regarding essential reforms.
