TikTok To Allow 20-Minute Videos That Can Charge Up To $190 To Watch

In the midst of multiple legislations angling to ban the app in various locations, TikTok introduced a new feature called Series on Tuesday that would allow select producers to create longer videos that will be available for purchase behind a paywall.

Each “Series” can have up to 80 videos, each of which can last up to 20 minutes. According to a TikTok spokesman, individual creators will be allowed to charge between $0.99 and $189.99 for their paywalled material.

TikTok users could previously only share 15-second, 1-minute, 3-minute, or 10-minute videos.

According to TikTok, the Series option is presently available to a small set of creators. In the following months, the business intends to open up applications for others to join.

Because of its parent firm, ByteDance, which is situated in China and is privately held, data privacy issues have been circulating around TikTok.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee voted to forward legislation authorizing President Joe Biden to ban TikTok.

Canada also banned TikTok from all government-owned devices beginning February 28, citing concerns over the massively popular Chinese-owned video-sharing app’s data-sharing practices with the Chinese government.

Last December, ByteDance was in hot water after it admitted that it used TikTok to track journalists’ whereabouts using their IP addresses. The Chinese tech firm conducted an internal investigation and discovered that employees tracked multiple journalists covering the company, improperly gaining access to their location and user data in an attempt to determine whether they had been in the same locations as ByteDance employees.
