Trudeau Appears To Travel Across Country In Secret To Avoid Scrutiny

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an unexpected appearance in Sudbury, Ontario on Wednesday, joining a gathering of Liberal MPs from across the province. The visit, which was initially not listed on Trudeau’s official itinerary, has sparked both interest and criticism from various political quarters.

Marc Serré, Liberal MP for Nickel Belt, confirmed Trudeau’s presence at the meeting held in a local hotel. “It was great to have the prime minister come in to talk to us this afternoon,” Serré told CBC, emphasizing the gathering’s focus on showcasing Northern Ontario, particularly its critical minerals sector.

The Prime Minister’s Office described the visit as an “in and out” trip with no public events scheduled. This lack of public engagement has drawn sharp criticism from the Conservative Party, who accused Trudeau of avoiding scrutiny of his policies.

In a statement, the Conservatives lambasted the visit as a “surprise trip” aimed at appeasing Liberal MPs “at their swanky retreat.” They further alleged that such gatherings come at a significant cost to taxpayers, citing previous Liberal caucus retreats that reportedly cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Conservatives used the opportunity to highlight what they see as failures of the Liberal government, pointing to rising housing costs and increased crime rates in Sudbury and across Canada. They claim that under Trudeau’s leadership, violent crime in Sudbury has risen by 108% since 2015.
