Musk-era Twitter started rolling out the $8 subscription for the blue checkmarks on Wednesday. The subscription, which is $7.99 per month, is new owner Elon Musk’s initial attempt at generating some revenue from the $44 billion platform that he said was bleeding over $4 million per day.
While the original blue checkmark was a badge that designated ‘verified accounts’ or accounts that met the verification criteria (meaning it’s an active, notable, and authentic account), granting official accounts of government agencies, brands/companies, entities, and notable individuals a level of authority — or the ‘lords’ in Musk’s rhetoric, the Musk-era blue check mark will also be given to anyone who’ll subscribe to Twitter Blue.
Clicking the blue badge will give you the lowdown on whether the account is “verified because it’s notable in government, news, entertainment, or another designated category,” or if it’s just subscribed to Twitter Blue.
welcome to the new blue tick Twitter. There are now two blue ticks, so you can tell who’s paying $8 or not 🙃 pic.twitter.com/ALzMSRrztq

With this move, less than a fortnight into being ‘Chief Twit,’ Musk has already overturned the social hierarchy on his public town square. No more lords and peasants, as promised!

Just verified accounts and posers (or parodies) from hereon.
It’s only been a day, but trust people to make it spectacular. Here are some of the best examples of ‘dumb things’ so far.
Many of which, not surprisingly, were focused on Musk himself (especially after he banned Sarah Silverman and Kathy Griffin a few days ago for “impersonation”).

Speaking of Italian…

And then of course, the ‘Popes’ had something to say.

Meanwhile, some, like ‘George W. Bush’ over here, took the joke a little closer to the edge to make a point.

As for the real Musk:
Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months.

We will keep what works & change what doesn’t.
