Shares of Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) were sent falling on Thursday morning, after the EV maker revealed it will be recalling about 475,000 cars due to technical issues that may lead to an increased risk of road accidents.
According to a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla is preparing to recall all Model 3s manufactured between 2017 and 2020— which is approximately 356,309 vehicles— over a rear-view camera cable harness that could fail to display an image if it becomes damaged from opening and closing the trunk lid.
However, a separate NHTSA statement also revealed that Tesla is recalling an additional 119,009 Model S vehicles made since 2014 due to a defective front-truck latch that potentially could cause the hood to suddenly open. The EV maker said it would repair the faults on all of the affected vehicles for free.

The latest recalls come on the heels of other regulatory trouble facing Tesla as of recent. Earlier in December, the NHTSA announced that it is opening a probe into a new software feature that allows passengers to play video games on the centre console while the vehicle is in motion, which could potentially “distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash.”
