Microsoft Partners with OpenAI for ChatGPT-Powered Version of Bing

Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT) is stepping up to challenge Alphabet’s (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google. The company is currently working with OpenAI to launch a ChatGPT-powered version of its search engine Bing, according to a report by The Information.

ChatGPT is a “human-like” AI language model. The chatbot software, fed a massive dataset of human conversations, can “learn” the patterns and structures of human language, as well as the context and meaning of words and phrases, which allows it to generate human-like text responses in conversation.  OpenAI made it available for free public testing at the end of November to astonishing results.

Its integration with Bing could significantly transform how people use search engines from putting in a set of keywords to a more natural, conversational experience. ChatGPT also has the ability to go back to previous exchanges, allowing users to “discuss,” and even brainstorm with the software.

Microsoft backed OpenAI with $1 billion in funding in 2019. Last year, the tech giant said that it planned to integrate DALL-E 2, OpenAI’s text-prompted image-generation software, into Bing.

Details are still sparse as of this writing, but the San Francisco-based technology news website said new the version could launch as soon as the end of March.

Google meanwhile has reportedly issued a “Code Red” as a result of the rising popularity of ChatGPT and the impact it could have on its search business.
