Fox News has accused former host Tucker Carlson of breaching his contract by launching his own Twitter show, weeks after Fox removed him from air due to a damaging defamation lawsuit over false claims of election fraud.
The network’s general counsel, Bernard Gugar, has formally notified Carlson’s legal team of the alleged contract violation via letter, which was seen by Axios. In response, Carlson’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, argued that any legal action from Fox would infringe upon his client’s First Amendment rights.
He criticized Fox for apparently attempting to limit Carlson’s freedom of speech after he utilized social media to express his views on current affairs. According to the letter from Fox, the contract stipulated that Carlson was not permitted to offer services of any kind via streaming, digital distribution, or any other means of online dissemination.
Despite the allegations of breach, it remains unclear whether Fox will take legal action. As of this time, Carlson’s legal team has yet to publicly respond to the claim. Fox booted Carlson off the air in April after the news network was slapped with a defamation lawsuit over unproven claims of election fraud.
