OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Sued by Sister, Says Allegations Are ‘Utterly Untrue’

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman faces a civil lawsuit filed by his sister Annie in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, seeking damages for alleged sexual assault and battery that she says occurred during their childhood.

The lawsuit, filed on January 6, seeks damages in excess of $75,000 plus punitive damages. According to court documents, Ann Altman, now 30 and residing in Hawaii, alleges the incidents occurred at their family home in Clayton, Missouri, between 1997 and 2006.

In response to the filing, Altman and his family released a statement denying all allegations as “utterly untrue” and describing extensive efforts to support Ann, who they say faces mental health challenges.

“Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her well-being,” the statement said, detailing various forms of assistance provided, including monthly financial support, help with housing, and medical care. According to the family, Ann receives ongoing support from their late father’s estate.

The family statement, signed by Altman’s mother Connie, and brothers Max and Jack, added that they had previously avoided public response “out of respect for her privacy and our own,” but felt compelled to address the matter following the legal action.
