CBC Gets Another Payday As Parliament Remains Suspended

Canada’s Governor General has authorized $40.3 billion in government spending, including $178.1 million for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as Parliament remains suspended for almost 100 days.

The special warrants were issued under subsection 30(1) of the Financial Administration Act, according to government documents released on Sunday.

“The appropriate ministers have reported that the payment of these sums is urgently required for the public good,” the Government of Canada stated on its website, noting that Parliament is not in session and no other appropriation mechanism is available.
