British Columbia Premier David Eby said he will not support new oil pipelines through the province, dismissing Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s suggestion that he might change his position.
Speaking from a trade mission in Japan this week, Eby rejected criticism from Conservative interim leader Andrew Scheer, who called the premier “radical” for opposing additional pipeline infrastructure.
“It’s not my job to tell Premier Smith that her vision for a North Coast pipeline is many years off and there’s no proponent at this point,” Eby said, referring to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s pipeline advocacy.

Eby noted the publicly-owned Trans Mountain pipeline is not operating at full capacity. BC Energy Minister Adrian Dix called new pipeline proposals “political” rather than economic.
Ford had expressed confidence Eby and Prime Minister Mark Carney would “work things out” on pipeline development during recent premiers’ meetings. The position continues the BC NDP’s long-standing opposition to oil pipeline expansion, citing environmental concerns and coastal protection priorities.
Eby said conversations with Japanese companies reinforced his view that global markets are moving away from fossil fuels toward clean energy alternatives.

Premier Eby needs to get out of the way. Fossil fuels will be with us for the next 100 years. Wind, solar unreliable. Carbon capture a waste of money. Climate doomsayers are wrong.
The world needs Canadian energy LNG and oil and throw in nuclear technology.

Another failure by Eby and the BC NDP. This government is fiscally irresponsible and does not reflect the will of the majority of the provinces voters. Most of us are fed up with the parties anti-progress, pro deficit policies.
