‘Atomic Sun for Everyone’: Bono Is Now Pro-Nuclear

U2, well-known for their past protests against nuclear energy, have reversed their stance and are now advocating for it.

Back in 1992, the iconic band joined forces with Greenpeace to stage demonstrations at nuclear energy plants, while in 2002, Bono and his wife, Ali, were vocal proponents of shutting down nuclear facilities, citing the potential risks to the public.

Fast forward to 2023, and U2 has taken a complete U-turn on the issue. They have even released a new song titled ‘Atomic City’ as they kick off their Las Vegas residency. Bono said that Las Vegas earned the moniker “Atomic City” due to its history of atomic bomb tourism in the 1950s.

Speaking to Apple Music ahead of their Vegas show, Bono and Edge disclosed their shift in perspective. Bono argued that by abandoning the fear associated with atomic energy and leveraging it for peaceful purposes, we might find solutions to the climate crisis.
