Canada Nickel (TSXV: CNC) has finally published an initial mineral resource estimate for their Mann West nickel project in the Timmins region of Ontario. The resource, notably is dramatically larger than the initial resource estimate established for their flagship Crawford project.
Highlights of the resource estimate include:
- Indicated resource: 0.4 billion tonnes grading 0.23% nickel, 0.012% cobalt. 6.5% iron, 0.32% chromium, 0.018 g/t palladium, 0.013 g/t platinum
- Contained resources total 949,000 tonnes nickel, 49,100 tonnes cobalt, 26.4 million tonnes iron, 1.28 million tonnes chromium, 231,000 ounces palladium and 166,000 ounces platinum
- Inferred resource: 0.6 billion tonnes grading 0.22% nickel, 0.012% cobalt, 6.7% iron, 0.34% chromium, 0.018 g/t palladium, 0.013 g/t platinum
- Contained resources total 1.31 million tonnes nickel, 73,200 tonnes cobalt, 40.4 million tonnes iron, 2.04 million tonnes chromium, 339,000 ounces palladium, 254,000 ounces platinum
The mineral resource is said to cover 40% of the total target area that has currently been outlined at the Mann West project. The footprint of that total target area is said to measure 3.4 square kilometres, which is more than twice the size of the Crawford target. The current resource area measures 1.9 kilometres long, 800 metres wide, and extends to a depth of 500 metres.
“Mann West marks a significant milestone with today’s announcement, demonstrating a resource that surpasses the size and scale of our initial Crawford resource, and that validates our belief in the potential of the Timmins Nickel District. With a target footprint more than double Crawford’s, Mann West is just the third of eight new mineral resources we expect to announce by the end of 2025, including two more this month,” commented Mark Selby, CEO of Canada Nickel.

In addition to the resource estimate, an exploration target is also said to exist which is estimated to contain an addition 0.5 to 1.0 billion tonnes, grading 0.20% to 0.22% nickel.
Future drilling at Mann intends to increase and upgrade inferred resources, while mineralogical and metallurgical analysis will be conducted to better understand recoveries.
