Cognetivity Neuroscience (CSE: CGN) is looking to expand the scope of its cognitive testing platform. The company this morning announced that it will be undertaking a new study with Durham University, as well as My Sports Wellbeing.
Collectively, the three groups are to work together to determine the ability of the firms cognitive testing platform to detect changes in cognitive health as a result of concussions, specifically as they relate to high impact sports. The tool will be tested for the ability of detecting concussions, as well as any changes to cognitive function as a result of repeated sub concussions.
The study is to primarily focus on concussions developed as a resulting of playing rugby, as well as other community sports. It’s currently estimated that as much as 89% of concussions are either missed or misdiagnosed currently, resulting in ineffective or inappropriate medical care.

Associate Professor Karen Hind at Durham University is to take a central role in the study. Notably, she lead the first independent study on the health of retired rugby players, and is currently researching short and long term risks from injury from sports.
“We’re very excited to be working on this study. Cognetivity’s unique technology represents a promising way to assess cognitive health in athletes at risk of concussion, post concussion and in relation to sub-concussions. This study is part of our overall programme of research through which we seek to investigate and provide strategies to improve athlete health and welfare,” said Dr Hind.
