Conservative MP In Battle River-Crowfoot Resigns For Poilievre To Run In Byelection

Canada is set to have a byelection in the near term following the 2025 election. With Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre failing to be re-elected in his riding of Carleton, an elected member of parliament in Alberta has agreed to step down from his position to make way for Poilievre.

Damien Kurek, who was elected in the riding of Battle River-Crowfoot with 81.8% of the vote, has agreed to step down from his position in an effort for Poilievre to be elected in the riding under a byelection.

Prime Minister Mark Carney meanwhile has stated that he’ll call a byelection quickly, with no games to be played on the matter. Poilievre meanwhile announced the resignation of Kurek on X “with humility,” thanking him in the process.
