Ontario Premier Doug Ford acknowledged tensions within Conservative ranks Monday, backing his former campaign strategist’s criticism of Pierre Poilievre’s federal election approach with the frank admission that “sometimes the truth hurts.”
The remarks came after Kory Teneycke, Ford’s former campaign manager, publicly criticized the federal Conservative campaign, warning it was headed for disaster and urgently needed to change direction. Teneycke, who previously worked with former Prime Minister Stephen Harper during his 2015 campaign, has been an outspoken critic of the current federal Conservative approach.
When asked about Teneycke’s comments on Monday, Ford suggested Poilievre would be wise to listen to the advice, praising Teneycke’s campaign management skills.

“I’ve said right from day one, he’s tough as nails, but he’s the best campaign manager in the country,” Ford stated. “To be very frank, if Kory was running that campaign, I don’t think Mr. Poilievre would be in the position he’s in right now.”
The Ontario Premier added that despite the campaign challenges, there’s “still a lot of time left” before voters head to the polls. While Poilievre has dismissed Teneycke’s criticisms, Ford’s critics can’t help but suggest that the latter is gunning for the top post in the party.
Despite still being behind Liberal leader Mark Carney in most polls, Poilievre appears to have gained traction on economic issues.
