Elon Musk has refuted claims that he plans to donate $45 million monthly to a Super PAC supporting Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Musk addressed these reports during an interview on Jordan Peterson’s show, simply saying, “I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump.”
While denying the substantial monthly contribution, Musk confirmed the creation of a political action committee called America PAC. Super PACs are independent organizations that can receive unlimited donations to support political campaigns, unlike traditional PACs that limit donors to just $5,000 a year.
Musk did not say how much he was donating to this PAC but clarified that they are at a “much lower level” than reported. The PAC’s primary focus, according to Musk, is to promote meritocracy and individual freedom.

Musk highlighted “freedom” as a core value that his PAC aims to promote. This emphasis on freedom appears to be a key driver in Musk’s political engagement and his support for certain candidates and policies.

He specifically mentioned “freedom from as much government intervention as possible” as a principle aligned with his PAC’s goals. He expressed concern about the increasing reach of government regulations, stating that “the hand of government gets heavier every year.” Musk went so far as to suggest that if this trend continues unchecked, “everything will be illegal” eventually.
Musk explained that the PAC’s intent is to “promote the principles that made America great in the first place.” He distanced himself from Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan, preferring instead a “Make America Greater” approach.
“I don’t prescribe to [a] cult of personality,” he said. Less than two weeks ago, Musk posted “I fully endorse President Trump” with a video of the Republican nominee in the aftermath of the assassination attempt. Musk did tell Peterson that he thought Trump displayed “great courage” in his response to the incident.
Musk’s denial or clarification of the reported $45 million monthly donation comes after Trump selected Ohia Senator JD Vance as his running mate. Vance was once the protege of PayPal co-founder and Republican megadonor Peter Thiel, and he knows his way around Silicon Valley. Musk and Thiel’s ilk see Vance as a “change-agent on tax policy, AI and crypto regulations,” as NPR put it.
The America PAC has reportedly gained support from several prominent tech figures including venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Palantir’s Joe Lonsdale (another Thiel co-founder), and the Winklevoss twins who are more recently known for their cryptocurrency ventures.
