Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is set to unveil its first all-electric pickup truck, named the F-150 Lightning, at its Dearborn headquarters. The automaker has indicated the reveal is scheduled for the morning of May 19, 2021.
The planned unveiling will be broadcasted simultaneously across social media platforms and 18 high-traffic public spaces such as Times Square and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Ford CEO Jim Farley announced the unveiling in a statement released last Monday. “Every so often, a new vehicle comes along that disrupts the status quo and changes the game … Model T, Mustang, Prius, Model 3. Now comes the F-150 Lightning,” Farley said.

Farley also said that the new electric vehicle will be able to “power your home during an outage, it’s even quicker than the original F-150 Lightning performance truck, and it will constantly improve through over-the-air updates.”
Production of the truck will begin next spring at the Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan. The carmaker also announced yesterday that it will host US President Joe Biden on May 18 to tour the production facility and also get a sneak peek of the F-150 Lightning pickup.
The F-150 Lightning is expected to hit the dealerships by mid-2022.
