GPT 3.5: OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Plus; Microsoft Unveils ChatGPT-Powered Teams Premium

OpenAI on Wednesday announced the launch of ChatGPT Plus, the subscription version of its sensational “human-like” large language model, as Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) also announced the launch of GPT 3.5-powered Teams Premium

With the subscription, users will get general access to ChatGPT even during peak times, faster response times, and priority access to new features and improvements. The offering will give users a more seamless and enhanced interaction with ChatGPT for $20 a month.

The subscription plan will be only available to customers in the United States for the time being, but OpenAI plans to expand access and support to additional countries and regions soon. Users in the US can sign up on the waitlist, and OpenAI will be sending invites in the coming weeks.

OpenAI isn’t taking the free version of ChatGPT away from users, at least not yet. The company hopes that the premium experience will allow them to continue to help support the free access availability of the language model for as many people as possible.

“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” OpenAI wrote in its announcement. “Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use cases including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help and learning new topics.”

The company also said that it is “actively exploring options for lower-cost plans, business plans, and data packs for more availability” in the future.

Microsoft’s Teams Premium, meanwhile, highlights “AI-powered productivity” using OpenAI’s GPT 3.5. The premium version comes with the intelligent recap feature that allows AI-generated notes that automatically extract key points and takeaways, tasks that suggest action items, and chapters that make reviewing meeting recordings more efficient.

The premium version will also have personalization options to make branding more seamless, as well as live translations that will provide captions of AI-powered real-time translations from 40 spoken languages.

The Teams Premium subscription will have an introductory rate of $7 per month until June 30. Beginning July 1, it will be offered for $10 per month.

The AI-powered Teams is just the beginning for the tech titan. “The age of AI is upon us and Microsoft is powering it,” CEO Satya Nadella said in the fourth-quarter earnings call.

The company announced a multi-year investment in OpenAI in late January. The investment will see Microsoft incorporating artificial intelligence into its product suite, beginning with Teams, to the design app Microsoft Design, and the search app Bing that has already put search titan Google on red alert.
