Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who rose to internet fame as the face of the Doge meme and cryptocurrency, has died at the age of 18.
Her owner, Atsuko Sato, announced the news on her blog on May 24. There will be a farewell party in Kabosu’s honor at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, on Sunday.
The famous Shiba Inu was adopted by Sato from an animal welfare organization in 2008. She would’ve been euthanized if she hadn’t been adopted. She may never have been snapped with that famous side-eye that inspired countless memes and the creation of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.
A story from earlier this year said that the beloved dog had been in poor health, battling cancer and other illnesses. Sato, in her blog, wrote that Kabosu passed away quietly “on a beautiful morning.”
