Economist Peter Schiff tweeted an interesting reaction to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s appeal to US lawmakers on Wednesday. Instead of commenting on the leader’s address, Ukraine’s situation, or the US’s position, he was distracted by Zelenskyy’s lack of a suit.
This tweet is coming from the same person who claims that America was founded by “rugged individuals” in a pinned tweet from 2020.
Zelenskyy, leader of Ukraine where “times are hard” from the unprovoked invasion of Putin’s forces, spoke by video with members of the Congress where he was given a hero’s welcome, and no one complained about his military-style T-shirt.

The powerful address gave its audience a hard dose of reality, as the Ukrainian leader implored Congress to remember the horrors of Pearl Harbor and 9/11, and described Russia’s invasion as an attack on the democratic values the US stands for.
The Ukrainian President urged the US and its NATO allies for help in imposing a no-fly zone over his country to stop Russian air attacks, as well as for more military aid in the form of sophisticated air defense systems and combat aircraft. “I need to protect the sky,” he said.
He also pled for even stiffer sanctions on top of those already imposed that have crippled the economy and collapsed the Russian ruble, “until the Russian military machine stops.”
US President Biden is expected to sign off an additional $800 million in security assistance later in the day.
Peter Schiff, meanwhile, risks being remembered for not much else but his misguided tweet. And it’s probably too late now to follow Cheri Jacobus’s advice.
