Toronto Airport Baggage Backlog: Passengers May Not Be Reunited With Their Luggage Until After Their Vacation

Holiday season chaos at Toronto Pearson has left many passengers flying to their destinations without their luggage. These passengers are finding out now that they will likely have to wait until after their vacation before they can be reunited with their baggage.

Photos from Terminal 3 of the Pearson Airport from earlier in the week show an eerie scene, with hundreds of suitcases and bags looking abandoned at baggage claim. The backlog was caused by a combination of “weather disruptions, frozen equipment, airline staffing levels and flight delays,” according to airport management.

Toronto Pearson posted on Twitter early Thursday evening that airlines will be reaching out to passengers directly to give them updates on their luggage, leaving passengers frustrated with their airlines as updates are still scant to nil, days after they’ve flown out of the airport.

Sunwing has sent its passengers an email update, which said that affected passengers will not receive their luggage before the end of their vacation and will instead need to retrieve it “following their return to Toronto” at a designated pick-up location.

As of this writing, frustrated passengers have yet to see updates from other airlines.
