The decision on whether the US government will enact tariffs on Canada as of tomorrow continues to yo-yo, with the latest headlines now stating that tariffs are to be delayed until March 1.
As per three people familiar with the matter that spoke to Reuters, US President Donald Trump is expected to announce new tariffs against both Canada and Mexico that will go into effect on March 1, rather than the previously quoted date of February 1.
Part of the commentary currently being provided to journalists is that a process will be included for countries to seek specific exemptions on certain imports, suggesting that Trump isn’t as committed to a trade war as previously perceived. Exceptions however are still expected to be “few and far between” as per at least one official.
