Cypress Development Corp (TSXV: CYP) has begun the process of extracting lithium from claystone. The firm announced the development this morning as part of its ongoing testing program at its flagship project in the Clayton Valley of Nevada.
Extraction is currently being performed from lithium-bearing claystone at the firms pilot plant project, with the company using a leaching process that is chloride based for direct lithium extraction.
The test program currently underway has been designed to confirm and optimize the process of extracting lithium from the firms deposits at the Clayton Valley Lithium project. Processes currently being used are based on the recommendations that were outlined within its pre-feasibility study that was filed in March of this year.

The plant itself is located roughly 100 miles south of the firms project in Nevada, where it is situated at a metallurgical facility. The pilot plant is being operated by del Sol Refining, whom is testing the new process for extracting lithium. Data collected from the program is expected to be used in the completion of a feasibility study for the project.
