Twitter will be phasing out legacy verified accounts come April, allowing users to keep their verified status only if they subscribe to Twitter Blue or are Verified Organizations.
The Twitter Verified account announced on Thursday that verified accounts will have to start paying the $8 per month subscription fee or lose the blue check, as the social media platform brings an end to its legacy verified program by April 1. Accounts belonging to government officials are recognized by a grey check, and verified organizations are denoted with a gold-coloured check.
The cascade of new changes come after Elon Musk took over Twitter last year, and after taking issue with the platform’s revenue streams, allowed anyone to get the blue check as long as they agree to pay a monthly fee.
