Denmark summoned the top US diplomat in Copenhagen after reports that at least three Trump-linked Americans ran covert influence operations in Greenland. The foreign ministry said outside interference is “unacceptable.”
Danish broadcaster DR’s report alleges one American compiled a list of “US-friendly” Greenlanders and tracked opponents while others cultivated political and business contacts. The broadcaster said eight sources in Denmark, Greenland, and the US described the activity but it could not determine whether the trio acted alone or on instructions.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said foreign actors are interested in Greenland and warned that any attempt to interfere in the Kingdom’s internal affairs “will of course be unacceptable.” He ordered the US envoy’s summons in response to the report.

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service said Greenland is a target for influence campaigns seeking to create divisions, including by amplifying grievances, and noted it has strengthened its presence in cooperation with local authorities.
The State Department confirmed chargé d’affaires Mark Stroh met Danish officials and said it would not comment “on the actions of private US citizens in Greenland.” It added the US “does not control or direct the actions of private citizens” and reaffirmed strong ties with Denmark and Greenland.
A White House official, speaking on background, also downplayed the issue, saying “the Danes need to calm down,” while reiterating Washington’s respect for Greenlanders’ right to determine their future, according to US and Danish media reports.
It was the second such summons for a US envoy in Europe this week: France earlier called in Ambassador Charles Kushner over a letter criticizing its record on antisemitism.
